Given the brief to create an impressive, open-plan kitchen, designers Kitchen House, Bournemouth knew that the surfaces chosen would play a major part.

The extension, part of a full refurbishment of a traditional 1930s Bournemouth villa, was of grand proportions and to be luxuriously styled, with Calacatta Dorado from CRL Stone being the perfect worktop choice for creating a sense of grandeur. The gold marble-inspired veins running throughout the surface certainly make a powerful visual impact on the island, a centre piece of the finished room that boasts mega proportions of 6.7m in total.

Manufacturing, design and installation expertise needed to combine on this project, with the designers creating a floating dining area off the main island in a feat of engineering that saw the steel subframe being clad completely in Calacatta Dorado.

Supporting the weight of the quartz and hiding the frame from view wasn’t without its challenges, before the designers faced the equally tricky task of fitting the waterfall side panels and the fully clad bowls, thanks to the bold patterning of the material.

Thanks to CRL Quartz technical characteristics, this is one of the most resistant countertops on the market, making it ideal for use in the bathroom too. Highly resistant to knocks and impacts, CRL Quartz is heat, scratch and stain resistant and no extra care or special products are needed to clean it. Stains can be removed with water or mild cleaning products and, because it is a non-porous surface, the build-up of bacteria or mould is prevented, making this a hygienic surface option too.

With this most important element of the new room’s design achieved, the space as a whole was then created around it, with some magnificent results. American sized built-in ovens are difficult to miss when entering the kitchen, but it’s the immense island, clad in Calacatta Dorado that really steals the show. The Calacatta Dorado surface works particularly well with the dark marble cabinets, mixed in with the super matt white doors to give the room excellent contrast, which it can easily accommodate over such a large area.

With cooking being an important activity for the homeowners, the impressive induction hub with hidden ceiling extractor above ensure the space is practical as well as beautiful. A modern prep sink and trough, in gold to match the veins of the quartz on the island help to bring the look together, with a 24k gold Quooker tap sealing the air of luxury and opulence. The dining area lies to one end of the room, with the worktop flowing down and across to turn the impressive space into a multi-functional kitchen, dining and living area in which to work hard, to rest and to enjoy time together with friends and family.

With plenty of space for dining, for enjoying drinks from the cocktail cabinets and for holding large family gatherings, the design brief has been more than met, with the finished look wowing anyone who visits.
