Designing a kitchen that appeals to the tastes of everyone who will be using it can be a tricky task and was exactly the situation that Jill and Steven Campbell found themselves in. Transforming a rather dysfunctional conservatory and extending the space to the rear, the couple created a generous kitchen leading directly into their dining area. Used by all the family, including the couple’s two growing children, this was a space that needed to be big on function too.
But when it came to choosing an overarching style, the pair were torn; Jill favoured a traditional look in line with the property itself, while architect husband Steven edged more towards modern tastes. The solution was to opt for a modern-classic, never a compromise but in fact a huge trend in kitchen design currently and a look that is very much in keeping with their home overall.
Visible from every aspect, the work surfaces chosen for the new kitchen in this detached home in the Essex countryside had a large part to play in the final effect, with the style of CRL Quartz Verona working in harmony with the couple’s varying tastes while also providing the practical solution needed. The traditional chandelier matching the chrome finish of the tap, door knobs and stool feet combined with the white Shaker units have been chosen to keep things simple in line with Jill’s classic tastes, while sophisticated appliances and mirrored splashbacks that reflect the light and the beauty of the overall room give the kitchen a modern edge that Steve was keen to adopt. The 30mm thick Verona surfaces add luxury and a sense of glamour to a predominantly white kitchen that is understated in its elegance.
