Updating a barn conversion that originally dates back 170 years can be tricky, as it needs to meet the demands of modern day living while offering a sense of timelessness that remains in character with the building’s history.

This was the challenge faced by designers R Matthews Bespoke Interiors when they were drafted in to create a new kitchen in a family home in Staffordshire. With space and light being key requirements for the customer, the design team were confident in selecting CRL Quartz worktops as one of the main factors in the new kitchen, fulfilling aesthetic and practical demands in equal measure.

While the homeowners chose pale grey furniture, this was matched with Verona worktops by CRL Quartz, helping to brighten the room and add to the sense of spaciousness. With little in the way of natural light, this was an important consideration and when compared to the original black granite worktops that were in place, the difference is dramatic in all the right ways.

Strong and durable, CRL Quartz is the perfect choice for what is now a busy family kitchen and features in all the main areas including the eye-catching multi-functional island unit used for everything from food preparation through to homework. With space at a premium, a breakfast cabinet is used to house crockery and small appliances that would otherwise have cluttered up the surfaces, creating a seamless look where the true beauty of CRL Quartz Verona can be seen in all its glory.

Resembling real marble, Verona helps to create a feeling of timeless elegance which was an important part of the brief, yet with none of the maintenance issues of the real thing. Highly durable, scratch, stain and water resistant, CRL Quartz doesn’t need to be sealed and is super easy to keep clean with no need for special cleaning agents. This means that despite being part of a busy, sociable space where it may be subject to spillages and lots of wear and tear, keeping it looking as good as new for many years to come will be simple. Chipping and staining needn’t be a concern and the family can simply enjoy their newly created space.

With its delicate marble-inspired patterning, Verona adds a sense of luxury to the finished space, and effectively brings the whole design of the kitchen together. This is a surface that pairs brilliantly with other materials and finishes around it, from the glass splashback behind the range cooker that is itself a focal point, to the sleek appliances and other metal finishes seen throughout.

The finished look is elegantly timeless, in keeping with its surroundings yet with more than a nod to the modern too. The light, bright kitchen living space allows the family to enjoy time together and socialise with friends in comfort and style.
